Chọi Trâu

"No matter where you are doing business, make sure you come home on the 9th of August for the buffaloes fights" This saying from the town of Ðồ Sơn, North Vietnam described one of the wildest tradition of its kind. In 2004, more than twenty thousands people from all over the country poured into the town of Ðồ Sơn, city of Hải Phòng on September 23 (the 9th of August in the Eastern calendar) to attend the water buffaloes fighting ceremony. There can be as many as 15 battles for the final round with many styles and customs. Loud sound of buffaloes horns crashing into each other that sent chill down everyone spine. The chasing, the thrashing and stabbing actions among the beasts that poked out each other eyes were ewesome. All these actions drew interest from the cheering crowd.

The following photos are recorded by Lưu Quang Phổ, a local reporter for the Thanhnien Online.
