Introduction

Peru, land of the Inca people, the Andes mountains, Machu Pichu and the Condor vultures has a long gamefowl history dating back to the era of the Conquistadores. The Spanish were the first importing their own (Bankiva) Spanish Game birds to the New World. Since then breeding and pitting gamefowl have become a very popular pastime for Peruan people. In Peru you can find a variety of gamefowl (Bankiva, Malayoid, Sumatroid and crossbreds). About all fighting breds are represented. Pitting gamefowl is very popular and a great competition does excist. Birds are mainly pitted in steel spurs (slashers). Peruan gamefowl have a good reputation. This due to high standard selection criteria. Gameness ofcourse being the number one criterium.
