Saipan
The Saipan is Malayoid gamefowl breed. Hence its name it comes from the island of Saipan located in the Pacific Ocean. The most accurate description (1977) of this breed has been given by B.W.Saylor, an American soldier who was stationed on Saipan in 1945. The breed is showing the following features....."These had long legs and necks, the cocks stood tails low, head high. They were black reds with grayisn, platinum, red cock hackles, tail feathers were redish gold. Cocks weigh six pounds or more. The hens were white on breast with black and white lacing on the upper part of the body. These chickens were game and would strike without a bill hold. They had small peacombs and some had no comb at all; not wattles. They had a big dew-lap in the center of the throat.....(end of quote). B.W.Saylor's article can be found under following link http://amazingforums.com/forum1/GAMEFOWL/1.html Remark : according Mr.Saylor a US breeder named W.M.Watson from Florida obtained a pair from him and crossed them with Malays.
