Introduction
This part of Europe dispite its interesting mixture of culture, traditions and religions was always a theater of violence and occupation. Hundreds of years of neverending wars have swept the area. The Romans, Byzantines and Turkish Ottomans tried very hard to establish their rule but gained complete control. The First and Second Worldwar ripped many etnic groups apart scattering them into all directions. Inspired by the Russian -glasnost- and -perestroika- national feelings bubbled up again and put the region on fire again. Only since a couple of years peace has entered the region again and slowly but persistently stability has been established. Years ago this region was a very popular tourist destination. To visitors this part of Europe has many to offer, amazing landscapes, a great cuisine, interesting cultures religions and traditions. The future of this interesting region looks bright again.

Balkan Gamefowl
Breeding and pitting gamefowl always has been a tradition in this part of Europe. In the past both Bankiva and Malayoid fowl were used for the pit but today the Malayoid breeds like Aseel, Hint Horoz and Shamo's are mainly used. Due the fact that many people from these countries work abroad, many Malayoid birds have been introduced and imported from countries like Germany, Belgium and Holland. Pitting birds is an old tradition and it always has survived the turbulent times.
